FFIV: Edge
Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Pairing: Kain/Cecil/Rosa
Warnings: Angst, sap
Rating: G
Summary: There was always room between them, but not now. For
lassarina.
Laying on the almost-edge of the bed, Kain feels a little left out. There used to be a space between Cecil and Rosa for him when he felt that way, but these days they curl up together, almost entirely excluding him unless he curls against someone's back. It's not that they mean to exclude him -- they probably don't even realise they're doing it. They've just got used to being all for each other, in the time he spent away from them.
He doesn't want to feel jealous and resentful. After all, they still want him in their bed, still -- well, they've said that they still love him, though he hasn't seen either of them look at him as they used to.
Cecil pulls away from Rosa while Kain is thinking, rolling onto his back quietly and turning his head to just watch him. It takes Kain a moment to realise -- but not that long a moment; a warrior is always aware of being observed. "What is it?" he asks, quietly, so as not to disturb Rosa.
Cecil shrugs slightly, moving closer to him. "Nothing. Nothing really."
"Go back to sleep," Kain says, not exactly ungently but still with an edge. He moves to roll out of the bed, to leave them to their intimacy and get away from their knowing pity, but Cecil catches his wrist and tugs him back, rolls him all the way on top of him so that they're nose to nose.
"Don't be an idiot," he says, firmly, returning to a time when it was just Kain-and-Cecil and no Rosa at all. They used to speak to each other like that, then, when one of them was doing something stupid. It does something to Kain to hear Cecil talking like that, makes him feel like he could stay right there, forever, just on top of him. But, after a moment, Cecil carefully nudges him off, and he thinks that he can't bear it, that he really should leave --
And then Rosa's arm curls around his waist and he feels her pulling herself closer to him, warm and soft against him. Cecil moves in on his other side and he realises that they've opened the gap for him again, brought him in between them.
He falls asleep quicker than he would like.

I love this, it's so very Kain and in-character and wonderful.
Also thank you for it being rated G; means I can read at work, yay!!
