Rydia is, he knows, perfectly capable of taking care of herself. However, Edge worries just the same -- though he'd never dare to tell her so to her face -- and in battle he sometimes stops to watch her with her black magic and her summons and the easy way she moves, knowing her limits, and always pushing them that little bit. Sometimes, he has to catch his breath and close his eyes and mutter a brief prayer to whatever's up there that she won't get hurt, 'cause most of the time he thinks that'd half kill him to see.

I like this very much. However, it kind of seems like at the end Mal-voice crept into your Edge. It works, I'm just saying, it's a little odd.
