"Sorry," he says, insincerely, still aching to touch her, feel her skin soft and smooth beneath his rough soldier's hands. He'd spoil it, he realises, somehow, between his stubbornness and coarseness and past, and so he doesn't -- but that don't stop him wantin' to.
