There's Wash's clothes, in their room on the floor where he left them in a fit of absent minded enthusiasm, what feels like years ago. There's the way he smells clinging to the bedcovers and the way he sticks in her heart like an apple piece in the throat, choking her off.

There's the cool cold rage, waiting to take her and bear her up, and there's the crying, and she wraps the sheets around her, cool and soft and entirely unlike his eager embrace, and lets that weigh her down for now, because she needs to.

There's this, and no more.
