"This is stupid," Seifer said, once, curled between Squall and Irvine with his arms around Squall. Squall's face was buried in his chest, his breathing slow and steady, but he wasn't asleep. Irvine was running his hand restlessly up and down Seifer's side. He barely even paused at Seifer's words, just hummed softly and shrugged his shoulders. It was his reaction to most things he didn't want to think about.
Surprisingly, Squall didn't stir either. Only a little, enough so that his voice wasn't too muffled. "What is?"
"The three of us. Being together."
Irvine moved a little closer to him and kissed the back of his neck and his shoulders rather distractingly, his hand slipping from Seifer's side to move over his stomach. Obviously, he didn't agree. "Why?"
"Well... look at us. We're all crazy. You just want to belong, I want to protect things, and Squally-boy here wants to cling to us one day and push us away the next. And he's always busy working."
Squall stirred a little, shifting so he could meet Seifer's eyes. "So? Seems we're all well matched for each other in that case. Irvine has us both to belong to and with, you have us and our relationship to protect, and I have you when I need you and you have each other when I push you away."
"Quite a speech," Seifer teased, if only to stop Squall from noticing him taking the words to heart.
Squall smiled a little and settled down again, nuzzling against Seifer a little. Irvine finally settled, too, his arm heavy over Seifer's waist and his fingertips just brushing Squall's hips. And between them, Seifer sighed softly and settled into their embrace, wondering when the hell Squall had gotten so good at logic and so comfortable with them that he could say such things.
