Summary: One last message.
"Um, well... hi guys. This is my last message. I'm on the Icarus. What a stupid name for an spaceship. Tell them all at Esthar that I'm not impressed with the name... I think it brought us bad luck."
Quistis took a deep breath. She was sweating, her hair was hanging in her eyes, and she was obviously fatigued and, apparently, alone. The view of the deck of the Icarus showed Quistis, a whole lot of consoles, and nobody at them. Even while she was talking something flashed red and she leaned over to shut it off, punching the button almost viciously.
"This ship... we're falling apart. There was... an explosion, I think. I think someone rigged this. Look into it, okay? I've set the course for this thing, it should crash in the ocean... I'll broadcast the co-ordinates in the coding for this. You'll find them. And yes, Seifer, I know my codes are always really easy to crack. I guess this one will be even easier, I can't think straight..."
She was silent for a moment, closing her eyes, and the transmission blurred in and out. She took a deep breath, and forced herself to keep talking.
"This ship has taken a real battering. So have we. There are... four other survivors, in the infirmary. Get them out, if they're still alive, okay? We've been keeping each other alive these past few days... I'm the only one fit for duty. Their recorded goodbyes are in the... in the... in the logs."
Quistis looked like her last strength was fading fast. She swallowed hard, and there was wetness at the edges of her eyes.
"And this is my goodbye, there's no more memory space free what with all the destruction... they wanted me to still say something so that's why I'm here, not with them... they... they locked me out of the infirmary before they went into their safety chambers so I had to come here - they'll open the infirmary up again for me to get there, but... The air is running out all over the ship, and right now... right now we're going through the atmosphere, so it's getting so hot in here... we're too slow, maybe we'll burn up anyway..."
There was another long pause. And then she was crying, a tear running down her cheek and dripping onto her uniform.
"Squall... Commander. Thank you... for trusting me. I've always felt like a big sister to you, you know. I... I don't know what to say. To any of you. I can't just say goodbye to some people, and not... Fujin, Raijin, stick with Seifer, okay? You've done great things for him. And Seifer, if you dare push them away, I'll... I'll come back from the dead and haunt you. And Selphie, I know what you're saying, never give up hope, right? Well... it's just... Those four deserve to live, and there might be enough air for them, but not for five people. Call it a sacrifice or whatever you want."
Another red light and a siren beeped and for a moment, Quistis looked too exhausted to move. Finally, she pulled herself up, supporting herself on the back of her chair.
"Goodbye, guys. Thanks for everything."
And then the transmission was lost.
