"I think he would look so cute in -- Squall! Irvine! Good morning!"
Irvine scrubbed some more sleep from his eyes and smiled as best as he could at Selphie, dropping into one seat and smiling vaguely at Squall, too, as he sat down next to him. Someone pushed a coffee towards him, amused at his state on a morning, and he grunted a thank you and gulped down two mouthfuls of far too hot coffee before finally managing a proper greeting.
Even Squall was doing better than him socially that morning.
Of course, Squall generally did, when he tried. Right now, he didn't look like he'd just gotten out of bed after a night of wild passionate sex and five hours sleep. He looked like he'd had a good work out the night before and got enough sleep to be cheerful, but not enough to make him deliciously lazy.
Irvine was quite fond of the lazy feeling and made plans on a regular basis to keep them both in bed, wrapped up in each other, for hours past their supposed waking up time. He didn't often succeed, but that very often wasn't the point. The point was trying, and coaxing out Squall's rare laughs and his teasing side and the smiles that weren't so rare now, but were still precious because they were always almost shy.
"We were just saying that Squall'd look really cute in your cowboy hat," Selphie explained, poking him in the arm.
He did make an effort to picture it. Briefly. Then he shrugged slightly, adjusting his hat just a little. "Ah."
Selphie gave him a somewhat frustrated look and then with one swift movement, snatched the hat off his head before he could grab hold of it, leaning over the table and endangering everyone's coffee in the attempt to drop the hat on Squall's head. That done, she leaned back, inspected her handiwork and began to giggle. "What d'you think Irvine?"
Irvine stopped being so interested in his coffee cup and leaned back in his seat as well, giving Squall a considering look and then suddenly smirking. "I dunno, I think you're right. He looks cute like that. But he'd look even better with nothing else on."
Selphie and Quistis laughed. Zell rolled his eyes. And Squall -- Squall blushed.
