KH: Spark
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Pairing: Seifer/Squall(Leon)
Warnings: Aerith POV
Rating: PG
Summary: Aerith coaxes Squall to tell her about his life before his home was destroyed.
"Were you always like this?"
Leon looked up at me. His eyes... it was as if they were dead. What I really wanted to know was why. Whether he had been born broken or whether he missed something -- or someone -- from his own world so badly he was incomplete.
"Not always," he said, his tone flat, as if that was the end of it.
"Do you miss your home?"
"Traverse Town is my home."
"Only because you can't get back. When did you ever have some spark?" I tried to tease. To smile. I was never very good at doing stuff like this. Teasing and cajoling details out of people -- it's not my style. I didn't want him to tell me if it would hurt him. But I was still curious. I'm sincere, warm hearted... all of that. Not someone Leon really wished to hang around with, I'm sure. I doubted that I -- or Yuffie -- was much replacement for whatever or whoever he lost.
"There was... someone. Can't say we were ever really friendly, but... I always felt alive when we fought," he said, softly, and he touched the scar between his eyes. There was maybe the trace of a smile there, even thinking about this person... I smiled as well.
"Who was it?"
"A man called Seifer. Seifer Almasy." He hesitated, as if it was difficult to say, but he did say it, looking at me with eyes a little less dead than before, "I love... loved him."
"He must have been a good man," I said, lightly. I was glad that he'd let me in, even just this little bit. I wanted him to tell me more, tell me all about his home, but even with the way he spoke... I didn't want to pry anymore.
"No," he said, a little humorous, but clearly not just teasing, "he was a criminal."
