FFVIII: To Have and to Share

Rinoa suspected it from the moment she saw the lovebite on Squall's neck. It wasn't one of hers -- she tended to keep them small and secret anyway, and she wouldn't have left one there, peeking above his collar. And of course, he was acting skittish -- guilty -- and trying to avoid her eyes, and so consciously ignoring the lovebite that it made it all the more obvious to her.

Quistis gave her looks of unease and confusion, but Rinoa simply smiled. She didn't care whether they thought she was stupid, blind, an idiot -- she knew what Squall needed. He may've loved her, with her softness and sweetness and her need to be protected, but sometimes he needed to be stripped of all that and left with nothing but raw, bright emotion. And Seifer, with his arrogant look at her and the way he looked at Squall with his eyes softening, gave it all away.

So they came to share him. Sometimes Squall would come to her bed and wrap himself around her, shaking a little and with guilt showing in every glance, and so often he nearly told her. But she almost didn't want him to tell, shushing him and hushing him and making her mark over Seifer's.

One day, Seifer showed up in their rooms when Squall was asleep, looking at her with a smirk. He didn't say anything, just looked at the way she had her arms wrapped possessively around Squall, and the way he curled against her. He didn't even ask if they had room for him.

She just moved over and pulled Squall awkwardly with her, and Seifer dropped his clothes in a heap and slipped in beside them.

They haven't slept apart since.

This is very nice. I like how Quisty knew (and was she maybe in the same boat as Rinoa? *eyebrow wiggle*) and yet didn't tell, and I like how Rinoa's so accepting and just makes it happen, in the way that Rinoa tends to just make things happen.
