They were willing to die.
They had Squall for a commander and Seifer for an enemy along with the sorceress they were created to fight, and all of them remembered Seifer if they didn't care about the sorceress. Laughing, taunting, teasing, bullying every single one of them and making their lives hell in one way or another.
The scar on Squall's face was like a badge of honour. He'd fought Seifer. Now he wanted them to help. And they would, god, they'd walk through hell for him because he was one of them, more than anyone, just one of them caught up and elevated and taken so high.
Every single blow they struck would be for their reluctant commander and his hesitant words, and for the way he gave them his all.
Even if it was going to be a massacre, they'd do it for him. No matter who he asked them to fight, they were ready to do it.
And he just didn't understand it. SeeD was like one big loyal dog, waiting for his command, and he had no idea what to do with it.
Except let them fight for him how they so desperately wanted to.
And he grieves for each one that dies.
