Summary: Squall watched over her. For
fated_children.
The last thing she really remembered was fishing with Seifer and Raijin. The trouble, whatever it was, came after that, a fuzzy patch in time that she just couldn't resolve into a clear picture. For a while, she lay wherever she was, comfortable, trying to figure it out, but eventually she decided that it was time to move and open her eye.
Which proved a little more difficult than she expected. Her head swam a little as she sat up and she squeezed her eye quickly shut again to stop the room spinning. She felt an arm around her shoulders, supporting her, and reluctantly leaned against it, letting the person help her, just for now.
Finally, the room stopped spinning and righted itself, and she almost contemplated thanking it, before realising that was a crazy thing to do.
"Are you okay?"
A male voice intruded on her thoughts, a voice she thought she recognised. It wasn't Raijin's, and though it was a voice she loved to hear, it wasn't Seifer's, either. She sat still a moment longer before opening her eye to solve the problem.
Squall Leonhart sat by her bed. In the infirmary. Of Garden.
"I..." she stammered, lost for words.
"You'll feel better soon. You had a fever."
"Say your name for me," another voice intruded, one she recognised again, and she looked up to see doctor Kadowaki stood there.
She cleared her throat, and this time her voice worked okay. "FUJIN."
"Right. You'll be okay soon."
The doctor walked away.
"WHAT...?" she began, but trailed off as Squall lowered her back to the bed.
"I'll talk to you later," he promised, getting up. "I have work to do now."
There was a long pause in which he noticably didn't walk off. He looked down at her, his expression as unreadable as ever, and she looked back at him, not understanding any of this and wishing he would explain now. Where was Raijin? Seifer?
"You'll be glad to know your friends are okay," he said, and then winced. Evidently that wasn't what he'd wanted to say. She waited. After a moment, it came out in a rush as he turned on his heel to leave, "I've been waiting here for you to wake since your fever went down."
That didn't explain anything, except maybe the relieved air he had.
She decided to wait for him to come back and explain things a little better.
