His mother had said it who knew how many times. Countless times. Whenever he fell and cut his knee, whenever he got sand in his eyes, whenever he got into a fight for Rikku's sake because she was smaller and skinny and a girl. She said it every time he got in trouble, always the same.
"One day you'll lose an eye doing things like this."
She hated being right. She sat by his bedside and thought about apologising just in case it was her fault for saying it. But he thought that was stupid and he grinned at her, like always.
