FFVIII: Assumptions

Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Seifer/Squall
Warnings: None
Rating: PG13
Summary: Squall searches for Seifer in Deling City. For [livejournal.com profile] 30_fantasies.

Deling City wasn't his favourite place on earth, really. It had a squeaky-clean surface and under that lay a million plots fit to make a SeeD commander's head explode, never mind all the rather sordid activities going on. But Squall wasn't there on business. Nor, he thought with a wry smile, pleasure, not really. He was there for a specific somebody and damned if he'd leave before he found the man.

Seifer Almasy.

Still earned a curse and a filthy look from people to ask after that name, but Squall had quickly learned not to ask. Just listen -- ask the right questions -- get a couple of SeeDs on it -- and you'd find what you wanted quickly enough. And Squall was pretty damned determined to find Seifer, so he was doing a good job of it, even if he refused to use any SeeDs for the job.

Still, Deling City was a big and dirty place and finding anyone who was there for that -- for the number of hiding places and the ease of staying out of the way -- was going to be harder than it would be anywhere else.

So in the end it was Seifer who found Squall. In fact, he marched into Squall's hotel, demanded the spare key for Squall's room and somehow frightened the woman behind the desk into giving him it. Then he found Squall's room, unlocked the door, walked in, shut it firmly behind him and waited until Squall sat up in bed, sleepy-eyed and tousled.

"What're you doing here, Leonhart?"

"None of your business."

Seifer snorted softly, leaning back against the door and crossing his arms. "So that's why you've been asking for me. You're not here to look for me, at all. You're here on some official SeeD business -- and that's why you've barely been mentioning your name and not saying anything about Garden."

Squall stared at his knees under the duvet and sighed softly. "Fine. You guessed it. I've been looking for you."

"Why?"

Squall shrugged.

Seifer rolled his eyes and decided that Leonhart looked kind of cute like that, all sleep rumpled and a little confused. "You don't want me to go back to Garden? You don't have anything you want to say to me? I'm horribly disappointed, prettyboy."

"I hate you, you know that?"

But they were both smiling.

"Say it, then," Seifer prompted, after a moment, moving to sit on the end of Squall's bed and forcing him to move his feet quickly out of the way under the covers. "Say what you came to Deling City to say to me."

Squall tried to scowl. "I hate you."

"Pretty sure that's not what you meant to say, Squally-boy," Seifer teased, reaching up to tousle Squall's hair just a little more. "But we'll run with that. Why do you hate me?"

"You know me far too well. And... I've missed you." Squall took a deep breath, batting Seifer's hand away and shifting slightly, moving closer to him and shifting the duvet a little to get more comfortable. "And I came to Deling City to find you and tell you to come back to Garden with me, because... because I love you."

Seifer smirked. "Knew you could say it, Squally."

Squall rolled his eyes. "Bastard."

"Such language."

"Are you going to say it back or not?"

Seifer raised an eyebrow, leaning a little closer and managing to notice that Squall's eyes were really rather pretty. He hadn't noticed that before. But that was down to being a stupid bully back then, and he'd learnt a few lessons since then. Mostly about pretty pairs of grey-blue eyes and what to do with people who had them, but also about being a bit less of an asshole to people who'd just confessed their sincere love for someone. "That's making the pretty big assumption that I do return your feelings."

"It's not an assumption. I know you do." Squall smiled a little. And his eyes looked a little mischievous, maybe even a little coy, as he looked through his lashes at Seifer, taunting him a little, just as Seifer used to taunt him.

"So why do you need me to say it?"

Seifer suddenly realised they were getting awfully close. Squall's eyes were half closed, their lips a couple of inches apart. He could feel Squall's breath against his skin, and found that Squall was actually breathing pretty fast. Pretty nervously. Or at least apprehensively.

"I just... need you to confirm it."

"Guess I can do that, if you ask nicely."

"Please."

"I love you, too. Quite a lot. And I'll come back to Garden with you if you really insist, but not right now. We have a few more important things to do first," Seifer said, softly, and then kissed Squall. Squall's eyes slid all the way shut and he almost melted against Seifer, wrapping his arms around his neck.

"Important things?" he asked, a little breathlessly, and his cheeks were the tiniest bit flushed and that was just the tiniest bit cuter and yeah, Seifer felt for a minute like his heart might burst, except that that idea was kind of stupid and sappy. Very stupid and sappy.

"Yeah. We've got a whole lot of kissing to do, for example. And then maybe a little more kissing."

Squall kissed him, nibbling lightly at his lower lip. "And after that, some more kissing?"

"Maybe," Seifer allowed, kissing Squall again and pushing him down onto the bed, pushing the duvet away from him and smirking a little. "And other things too."

"Of course," Squall agreed, sliding his hands up under Seifer's trench coat and pushing it off, cursing quietly when Seifer decided to be awkward. Once that was off, he turned his attention to Seifer's vest.

"In fact, we could do some of those other things while kissing."

"Sounds like a good idea to -- mfff, Seifer -- "

Seifer decided there'd been enough of the talking, and a lot of that kissing they'd mentioned was due to happen right about then. He pinned Squall down and kissed him breathless, and then kissed him some more while Squall worked on getting his clothes off for him.

It had, Squall thought, turned out very well indeed.

Okay, I'm adding you. That was too good.
