Time. It's the one thing Edge can't fight or deny and he hates it. Every time they meet it's taken everyone away a little more. Cecil. Rosa. Rydia. They're not getting any younger, any of them, and there are the faintest wrinkles around Cecil's eyes, born of worry and smiling and age. Rosa is quieter, stiffer, gentler. She can no longer hit a target from half a mile away with one eye closed. And Rydia's magic no longer bubbles and sparks. She has to close her eyes and force it. She's still beautiful, though.
Time is the thief, taking them away.
