Seifer puts his tray down on Squall's table without a word, almost as if he thinks he's welcome, and he sits down opposite Squall with a grin and an easy greeting. "Yo, Squally-boy. What's the pile of typed crap today?"
"Mission reports."
Seifer didn't seem satisfied with that, however. He huffed softly, stretching his legs out and covering a yawn with a lazy hand. "What's it all about, though? You can't tell me it's good reading material at breakfast time, no matter what it is. How's the Garden doing? The kiddies messing up lots of missions these days or what?"
"Seifer. Shut up."
"Nuh-uh."
He's enjoying it, Squall realises. He thought he missed Seifer, but he was obviously wrong. The bastard is just too damned annoying at times. He can't remember him being so curious before, but that's obviously a new addition to Seifer's repetoire of the annoying, the more annoying and the let's-push-Squall-into-almost-killing-me kind of annoying. For a moment there in the training center Squall had almost believed Seifer wasn't an annoying prick at heart.
"Squall," Seifer says, softly, "talk to me. I didn't bare my fucking pathetic feelings to you in the training center for you to just ignore me. I thought you missed me, but you haven't even made an effort to talk to me in days."
Squall suddenly realises what it's actually all about and it almost makes him smile. For a moment he doesn't say anything, though -- let Seifer suffer. Then he shifts his pile of papers out of the way and steals one of Seifer's sandwiches.
"Don't be an idiot. I was busy, not avoiding you."
Seifer can't quite hide the relief on his face in time.
