It's not like they were dating. It's not like they were anything to each other and yet Rydia still feels it like a stab in the back when she catches Edge kissing another girl. She slaps him, pure and simple. No black magic, no fair fight, just a slap that leaves the mark of her fingers red across his cheek.

She storms off and he doesn't follow, and that's an even worse betrayal, so when he does follow, and tries to put his arms around her, she's cold and stiff and brittle.

Even apologies don't melt the cold in her eyes now.
