There she goes, falling down, hanging onto the string of coloured flags, laughter in her face. For a moment he's horrified and then he's amused and then he's mortified, because damn, she's several steps ahead of him.
So he follows, because something (something quite apart from loyalty to Tantalus) draws him to her, says this is his match, says that she's his Princess fair and he's whatever the hell she needs. He's her vagabond to fall in love with, the lovable rogue, and she's the Princess he charms.
She's clever and smart and beautiful and damn, could he ask for anything more?
