FFIV: Next Time
Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Pairing: Edge/Rydia
Warnings: None
Rating: PG
Summary: Rydia isn't ready to settle down yet. For
mount_ordeals.
He thinks he's good at all the romance stuff. Rydia would let him think that, because it can be cute, but he's Edge and she's Rydia and putting him down comes naturally to her. So when he finally dares to come up to her and kiss her hand, she tells him quite bluntly that his hair is sticking up oddly.
And she doesn't help him smooth it down.
"You're hard on him," Rosa says softly, when he's gone, a little crestfallen, a little determined to do better next time. Rydia watches him go with a little pang, but there; he's Edge, he'll just bounce back.
"Am I?"
"He doesn't deserve it."
Rosa is growing into her role already. Her hair shines and shimmers and tumbles down around her face, and the crown seems to sit perfectly on her head, and she smiles all the time. And she's a perfect match for Cecil, the perfect Queen to his King. She's wise and good and strong and skilled, and Rydia admires her.
She could be a Queen, too, she knows; she could sit on the throne of Eblan next to Edge. And maybe some day she'll be Edge's Rosa.
But she's not quite ready to settle down and be good yet.
"I'm sure he'll get tired of it and leave me alone," she says, lightly, but she isn't really sure.
Rosa hmms softly, not agreeing or disagreeing, and across the room Cecil laughs at Edge and his lovesick state and the way he makes eyes at Rydia across the room. He claps him on the shoulder and offers him a drink and gives him some tips, and next time Rydia might be charmed, and next time Rydia might let herself fall in love, and next time Edge might go back to Eblan with a fiancée.
But not this time.
