Summary: Ellone missed her. For
vollykins' request on
ffsaffic.
"Quisty? Are you okay?"
The soft touch to her shoulder stirred Quistis out of her thoughts and she looked up to see Ellone there, smiling gently and apologising for startling her. "It's okay. I was just thinking... I'm fine."
Ellone moved to sit next to Quistis, slipping into the seat and staring at the polished wood. "I used to sit here all the time. I'd see you and Squall, and Seifer and Zell and everybody I knew here, but no one seemed to recognise me. Still, I'd sit here and hope you would."
"I... I'm sorry." Quistis bit her lip, and Ellone smiled again, quick and soft and bright.
"No! It's not your fault. If anything, I should have spoken to you. You might have remembered if I had. Speaking to Irvine about it was the way you all remembered, wasn't it?"
"Yes, but..."
"It's okay."
Ellone reached for Quistis' hand, touching it lightly and then, smiling again, taking it into hers, squeezing gently. Quistis was still the same Quistis, still too calm and collected and sensible for her own good, but still not Squall, with his coolness that went beyond calm into coldness. Clever Quistis, the big sister to everyone but Ellone, and Seifer who rejected any idea of having a surrogate family.
"It's nice to be all together again." Except Seifer, she added silently, but that didn't need to be said. Quistis nodded.
"We ought to go and find the others," Quistis said, after a while, reluctantly drawing her hand from Ellone's. They both stood up, looking at each other, and Ellone moved a little closer, her heart hammering. Quistis had gone into battle, faced enemies that Ellone couldn't even bear to think about, and the most terrifying thing Ellone had done recently was this, but still.
She stood up on her tiptoes a little, leaning closer, and pressed her lips softly to Quistis'.
"There," she said, and took a shaky deep breath, "that's how much I missed you."
