Palom was surprised when his sister came up with the all-or-nothing plan, but he'd been only seconds behind her anyway. And Cecil and his friends needed their help. And the sage Tellah, too. It was inevitable, and even if they hadn't come up with the plan, someone would've had to.
They were first. So they took the honour of carrying out their plan.
So they cast Stone, together -- it had to be together, they were born together, they'd go together -- and that was all.
