cupcakemonster's Heart of the Matter.
He doesn't know who it is, and he doesn't want to know after she says that she can't say, but he figures she's in trouble, his Rikku is in trouble, and that's bad. He half wants to run to Baralai, but Baralai can't solve all his friggin' problems so he smile-smiles at Rikku and gathers her up and holds her close. "It's okay" and "I'll do whatever I can to help, y'know?" and "Rikku? It'll be okay".
And he pets her hair and tucks her head under his chin and rocks her, rock-a-bye-baby and shit that was a bad thing to think.
He sits there in the dark and wonders what he can do for her, and he whispers congratulations and apologies and whatever feels most appropriate.
"Rikku? You know I'll always be here for you, don't you?" he says, and that finally feels like the right thing to say. And it's the truth, because he'll be here or he'll take Rikku with him when he sees Baralai, whatever, he'll do whatever it takes because they are and always have been best friends.

*pokes Rikku* Gippal loves you crazy amounts, you hear? He has you and Baralai on the same level and he's all ♥♥♥ at you both all the time.
I'm still contemplating making Gippal do some crazy thing like propose to Baralai and then he'd be all "Rikkuuuuuuu, be a bridesmaid" and everyone'd be "but you're both guys" and Gippal so wouldn't care. xDD
