feywood, celebrating our sixth anniversary. The idea is that I've picked an OTP per year, roughly: this one is for the summer we watched Firefly and Serenity five times in a week.
Kaylee didn't intend to sneak up on them and catch them kissing, mid-argument. She didn't intend to catch the captain with his hands in Simon's hair and his mouth pressed roughly to Simon's neck. She didn't intend to catch Simon making that tiny noise, the one she'd loved to draw from him when they were still together. She just had some idea of maybe calming them down, after River complaining about them being too loud in her head.
But she's not going to leave now she has caught them. It could be good blackmail material, after all. And they're pretty together, they look right, even with the low stab of jealousy that Kaylee's trying to teach herself not to feel anymore when it comes to Simon. She can't imagine Mal allowing anyone else to suddenly push him back against the wall and attack the buttons of his shirt. He wouldn't let anyone but Simon kiss him like that, like he's claiming Mal for his own, Kaylee thinks.
She does leave when Mal goes to his knees between Simon and the wall -- but not without first catching a glimpse of Simon's eyes, intent on Mal, and Mal's little smile as he undoes Simon's pants, and the shake of Simon's arms as he braces himself against the wall.
