cupcakemonster's Falling Down.
Baralai won't look at him, and Rikku's gone, so he kisses Baralai and tells him thank you and sorry and feels him go all cold and distant and he spends too much time there, coaxing Baralai's eyes back to his all over again (like he had to do after the first time), and then he says goodbye and gets up and goes to find Rikku.
And the chorus in his head goes stupidstupidstupid.
He nearly slips on the spilt wine (ungraceful, Gippal, really) and then he wonders why he's chasing after her anyway because she's gone now. She's probably run back to Brother and ohgod, Brother is going to kill him if Rikku tells him.
And really, he wonders whether Rikku is going to make him give up Baralai, knows he should've already, guesses he's going to have to make a choice and hates it. And hates himself, for getting caught up with two people at once.
He hears her crying, snifflesniffle and quiet, and he creeps up to her and wraps his arms around her and hopes she doesn't push him away. He starts with sorry and goes on quickly to more apologies and how he loves her, and she's too unhappy-weak to fight him just now, so he tells her that Baralai was helping him, and that he had something with Baralai before her -- but (quicklyquickly) he's not, you know, that way, and Baralai isn't either, they're just...
And he knows she's not buying it.
