Summary: Little Sammy's first steps. For
feywood, for getting up on time.
Nobody's there to see Sam's first steps, except Dean. Dean isn't even really interested -- he loves his baby brother, okay, but there are more interesting things in the world. Lots of them. But he notices when he hears a little noise, Sam's little "look what I did" noise, because, well, what Sam's done isn't always a good sign. At all. And he's supposed to stop Sammy from getting into any trouble. That's the way it is, so he looks up, and there Sam is, standing up and looking both bewildered and pleased with himself.
"Hey, Sammy," Dean says, and he can't help grinning, totally goofy and over the top but hey, his baby brother is finally learning to walk and nothing's gonna stop 'em now.
"Dee!" Sam says, and takes a staggering step. Then another.
"That's right, Sammy," Dean says, getting up, reaching out for him. "C'mere."
Sam isn't surprised, when he grows up and John mentions it casually, gruffly, in passing, that Sam's first steps were towards Dean. He isn't surprised at all. That's the way it always has been. The way it's always going to be.
