"I always knew I'd end up here," Barney says, dreamily. He shifts against Bran, settles against him, using his shoulder for a pillow. "Always."
"You haven't known me always," Bran says. He traces the lines of Barney's ribs, a little too evident -- he's still a scrawny thing, he thinks, with helpless affection, with a helpless smile. Barney's always been able to do that, tug that smile from him. He shifts and presses a kiss to Barney's temple, feeling the heated skin and the wisps of silky hair under his lips, logging all these sensations to remember when Barney's not around.
"I have," Barney says, far-away and not quite sounding like himself. "I always knew."
The soft finger of knowing isn't allowed to touch Bran, isn't allowed to call forth recognition, so instead he just smiles, not knowing he's missing anything. "Romantic," he teases.
"I knew," Barney insists, and twists round, cups Bran's face. His face is alight, earnest. "I always knew, Bran. From the first time I saw you."
"You were tiny," he says, not knowing why he's protesting, and then Barney's lips are warm against his, as insistent as his dreamy affectionate tone, his soft touch.
"I knew," Barney says again, with absolute conviction, and Bran has no heart to argue with him -- ever.
