I may be late to the party, but I can still comment. :-) My experience in SPN is limited to Season 4, at present, but Dean has a wonderful voice here. (If I can hear the dialogue in my head the way that he speaks it in the show, that is a good indication to me that it sounds natural for his character.) Jess is a character I have not met, and so I cannot comment on her, but the thing here is that the biggest relationships Dean has in this short story are those that go unspoken, those that belong to people who are no longer present. Maintaining that note, that theme, makes this whole piece clear as a bell. Beautifully done.
