GW: Going Soft
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: Heero/OC (Ciaran), Duo/OC (James)
Warnings: Sap
Rating: PG
Summary: Ciaran was hopeless. Timeline here.
Ciaran looked about as comfortable as a man sitting on a cactus with an ex lover telling him that he'd got her pregnant. Of course, that wasn't the problem with him - he was gay, after all - but he wasn't very happy. Or, not that he wasn't happy, but he wasn't...
He gave up trying to explain the feeling to himself.
It wasn't fair. James fitted in perfectly with the five pilots. One moment he could be talking, earnestly and animatedly, about philosophy, with that one - Wufei? - and then the next, laughing and joking with his lover. Ciaran didn't feel quite so comfortable. He was okay with Heero, obviously, and with Duo, but he had to admit he was a little intimidated by the quiet, intense Trowa, and he had no idea how to deal with one of the richest men on earth. Never mind the other one.
He just didn't fit in with the five of them. He didn't want to say that to Heero and spoil things, though, so he kept quiet, tucked out of the way, for once.
He should have known that James and Duo would come outside, hoping for privacy, and find him there. He had to smile at how well that relationship was doing. It had been pure guesswork on his part, and with Heero's reluctant, and inexperienced, co-operation, it had come out a billion times better than he hoped.
He wandered inside again, leaving James and Duo to their own devices.
It was always an odd feeling, seeing how Heero and Trowa and the Winner heir and that Chinese pilot all interacted. Heero was usually a lot quieter, more reserved, and if he laughed at all in company it was more for politeness' sake. But, perched on a stool at the edge of the conversation, Ciaran watched a thousand emotions spill over Heero's usually well controlled face.
He wished he had friends as good as those.
It was later that day, when Heero had gone out to get a pizza, when the Winner heir, what was his name, Quatre, came out to speak to him. "You've been quiet, today. I heard you were louder than this."
Ciaran's blush lit his cheeks up immediately. "I guess I don't feel quite... welcome here," he blurted it out, and then could have killed himself. But Quatre just laughed, patting his arm.
"You and James wouldn't be here if you weren't welcome with us."
Ciaran couldn't think of an answer to that.
"Come on inside," Quatre suggested, inclining his head towards the other room. "Heero will be back with the pizza soon, and we were thinking of playing a game of cards or something."
"...Alright," he found himself agreeing. He followed Quatre inside.
When Heero got back, he found Ciaran sat with the others, looking as if he belonged there. He had to smile, knowing that, if there was such a thing, Ciaran was now an 'honorary Gundam Pilot'. He knew that no matter what happened, Ciaran had a place among them.
Ciaran looked up at him, and they smiled at each other. Quatre smiled as well, to see the look between them, Wufei snorted and turned his eyes away politely, and Duo laughed. "You've gone soft!" he told Heero.
Yes, Heero thought, rolling his eyes at Ciaran who, standing up, managed to knock the table so the cards all fell. He must be getting soft; he couldn't think how he'd learned to tolerate Ciaran's sheer hopelessness.
