calliopepurple. Happy Christmas, and may each new year be better than the one before.
It's something about growing up in Trabia. Galbadia is temperate -- long periods of low-cloud and grey days, the occasional sunny day. Bearable, mostly overcast. Trabia is generally unbearable, snow in places all year round, and Irvine is pretty sure that's got to be against some kind of rule. And he's pretty sure Selphie is slightly unhinged, prancing around in that little sundress of hers -- prancing around currently in basically nothing at all. Irvine's not generally opposed to Selphie wearing nothing at all, but it's too friggin' cold.
"It's snowing again," Selphie announces, very brightly. She comes back to the bed and jumps on it. She doesn't even have goosebumps. "C'mon, lazybones, you'll warm up if you start moving."
"We could move in here. Under the covers. That'd get me warm."
"Do you ever think of anything else?"
Irvine thinks about that question for a second. "It's been known. Not at six AM on a morning in Trabia." He wraps his fingers around her wrist -- worries again, just a flash of it, at the deceptive fragility of her, the frailness of her wrist -- and then tugs gently, shifting so he's roughly aiming her at the warm spot next to him. "Not when you're prancing about naked, either."
"Oh." Selphie thought about that for a moment, and then settled in beside him. "Okay. Just because I love you, I'll stay."
Irvine blinked. "Because you -- "
"Because I love you," Selphie said again, like it wasn't the first time. Irvine's not a dick -- Selphie knows he has feelings for her, shit, he's been full-on romancing her long enough, but it's not something they just say, not like that. Not so far. He doesn't know when he pictured saying it, but --
"I love you too," he blurts, and it doesn't come out anywhere near as smoothly as he'd like, but Selphie's smiling, cuddling in closer, and that's always been enough for him.
