The rush of adrenaline is simultaneous with the pain, the ice lancing into him, brief and sharp and horribly bright. Akihiko gasps, spinning round to face whatever threat this is, his fists ready. Mitsuru stands there, her face a mask of control. She raises an eyebrow at him.
"Akihiko," she says, smoothly. "I had noticed your weakness before, but this is... interesting."
"You..."
"Yes. A simple low level ice spell, Akihiko. Enough to get your attention."
"I've been trying to train myself out of my weakness," Akihiko mumbles, turning away again. The rush of ice this time isn't entirely unexpected, lancing him through and making him drop to his knees, shaking. Mitsuru comes closer, and it's like another shock of ice when she slides her fingers into his hair and takes a grip.
"I'll help you," she suggests, and she actually leans down so that her lips brush Akihiko's ear. When she casts again, Akihiko is ready for it, and somehow with her hand there, her body so close even though she's barely touching him, the pain turns sweet; the soft throb of it when the spell finishes is something more like pleasure.
"Mitsuru -- " he says, choked.
"I thought so," she says, and he listens for it this time, waits for it. This time, he's not surprised by the rush of pain, he's ready for it, tensed, and it runs through him like wildfire. The only thing that keeps him from falling forward is Mitsuru's hand in his hair, and he finds himself wishing she would use it to wrench his head back -- another burst of sharp pain, another spike of adrenaline and want -- and --
He cries out aloud at the next burst of ice. Close to him, without even turning to look, he can feel Mitsuru's smile.
