Summary: They're sickeningly obvious. For
fic_on_demand.
To Jayne's eyes, they're sickeningly obvious. The little crooked smile Simon gives Kaylee as she passes him his plate, the way she grins back at him, the way their hands brush as if by accident. It seems fuckin' stupid to Jayne, and that crooked smile is one of the most irritating things he's ever seen. And then there's the way Simon puts his arm 'round Kaylee when they're all sitting in the common area, playing cards. Not completely obvious, but there, visible, like he's sayin' "hey, look at me, I got Kaylee".
Except he'd have some other, more prissified way of actually saying it.
"You're green," River tells him one day. "Jade green."
He's watching Simon and Kaylee cooking together -- Kaylee, mostly, with Simon handin' her things, resting his hand at the small of her back while he taste-tests. "What you on about, crazy girl?" he asks, without really listening.
"Jealous," she says, shaking her head, and then she's gone. Simon and Kaylee are kissin' now -- one quick soft kiss followin' another. Jayne clears his throat.
"Get a ruttin' room, or get on with the cookin'. I'm hungry."
The look Simon gives him is pure ice. Jayne shrugs it away.
