Their noses bumped awkwardly. Laguna put his hands on Raine's shoulders -- they were tense beneath his touch, slender and feminine, and he felt very, very clumsy all of a sudden. She was laughing, though, relaxing -- relaxing, he thought, because this new thing wouldn't change anything between them. He was still a bit of an idiot. She was still the capable one. It was her who closed the space between them for a proper kiss, found the right angle and the right moment.
Perfect, he thought, when he pulled back, and he thought he might have accidentally said it aloud, because her eyes were sparkling. But neither of them said anything more -- god knows he'd probably have said the wrong thing -- and he just, carefully, kissed her again.
