How he'd ended up drinking with Al-Cid, Balthier didn't know. He suspected it was a better idea than some he'd had, though. Al-Cid had been matching him drink for drink, and hadn't been making disapproving noises every time he refilled his glass -- unlike certain Viera he could name. In fact, he had quite good taste in alcohol, and once you were drunk his accent stopped wearing on you, or so Balthier was finding.

How he ended up kissing Al-Cid was truly a mystery for the ages. It was, truly, a smarter thing than kissing some other Humes he could name, and the man wasn't bad at it, either. He tasted strongly of madhu and seemed to think he was in charge, but neither of those things were really disconcerting.

Balthier was sure he would regret it, when he was sober. But he didn't plan on that being anytime soon.

At some point I'd like to see a Balthier/Al-Cid story that doesn't involve lots of alcohol. For now I'll have to be happy that this is great fun to read.
