Pepper had never known anyone who made her feel so young. So young and so -- well, so vulnerable. Red hair and a deadly smile -- it was a recipe for disaster right there and Pepper knew it. She knew it deeper than she knew anything: it wasn't just like the woman looked as if she should be signposted as something dangerous.
Pepper, though, had never liked playing it safe. Not for any reason. It smacked too much of being a girl, a wilting flower, a damsel locked in a tower. That wasn't Pepper.
For one thing, she had no desire for a knight.
The kiss was a challenge. Pepper knew that the woman knew it, could almost taste the amusement she felt.
That didn't mean she was going to back down.
