Summary: She felt uncomfortable being alone with him. For
feywood on my first kisses meme.
Yuna felt absurdly uncomfortable being alone with Baralai. It wasn't him, in himself, that made her feel like that -- Baralai was always polite, always reserved, always correct, and yet his smile sweet enough when it came to keep him from being unbearable. It wasn't even the memories of Shuyin that lay over most of her memories of him.
It was that something twisted in her stomach when she looked at him, something she hadn't felt before or since he had come into her life. The he that she tried not to think about anymore, because he wasn't coming back. Ever.
"Is something wrong?"
"Huh? Oh -- no, nothing. I'm fine."
"You've seemed... preoccupied." Baralai shrugged slightly. "If you'd like to be left alone..."
"No, no, it's..." Yuna shook her head. "I enjoy your company."
"You do?" He looked a little flustered, all of a sudden, at that. "That is -- I enjoy your company, too. Actually, I wanted to ask you something."
"What is it?"
He looked even more flustered. He moved a little closer, though -- she saw him visibly gather up both determination and composure. "I was -- may I kiss you?"
"Y-you -- what?!"
"I'm sorry," he said, quickly, stepping back. "I was... too abrupt. My apolo -- "
She would never know, afterwards, what made her reach out and stop him -- what cut past her indecision and brought her suddenly, fully, into the present, where Baralai stood and he was gone. "I didn't say no."
"Then -- "
Which of them moved first, she'd never know. Baralai touched her cheek when he kissed her -- they touched only at the lips and there, and yet she felt it like a shock, like something woke up which had been sleeping.
