Summary: Maya interrupts Phoenix's Christmas plans a bit. For
lemon_advent.
Phoenix had been looking shifty all evening. The moment Pearl had fallen asleep, he'd left her in Maya's care and hightailed it out of there. But Maya wasn't his assistant -- cunning and beautiful and sharp-eyed -- for nothing. It wasn't any trouble at all to follow him right to Miles Edgeworth's door, just in time to see Edgeworth inviting him in.
Well, she thought. She grinned to herself and lunged, fast enough to get through the door before Edgeworth closed it. She grinned up at him. "You thought you were going to be able to escape Christmas festivities, huh? Nick, you could've told me you were going to drag him along, y'know. I think it's a great idea!"
"Maya -- "
"And now I don't know if we've got anything left exactly." She frowned. "Pearl can eat a lot when she puts her mind to it. Is that why you weren't eating much, Nick? I thought you were getting sick."
"Maya," Edgeworth began, but Maya wasn't so easily silenced. She made a grab for the bag Phoenix was holding.
"Hey, have you got party poppers or something in there? I thought you couldn't get any!"
"Maya!" he snatched the bag back, hiding it behind his back.
Edgeworth mostly just looked bemused. "What's going on?"
"We're going to -- "
"Maya! Will you please leave us alone?" Phoenix burst out. "I'm trying to seduce him, not throw a family Christmas party!"
"Oh," Edgeworth said, apparently lost for words. Phoenix resembled a tomato. Maya appeared to be caught in stare mode.
"Yeah. Oh."
Edgeworth cleared his throat. "Maya," he said, quietly.
"Yeah?" she asked, in a small voice.
"Please. Get out."
She looked between the two of them, slowly. "Are you sure you're not going to kill him or something?"
"Absolutely positive."
"Please, Maya."
"Alright then." She straightened up a little, wagging her finger at them. "Behave yourselves."
"Maya!"
She laughed. "Alright, alright, I'm going. Have fun!"
She shut the door behind her with a loud bang. Edgeworth winced, but none of the photos actually fell off the walls -- though a few looked a bit skewed. He cleared his throat. "So, Wright. I hear you were... supposed to be seducing me, this evening."
He grinned, weakly. "Oh. Uh. Right. I -- "
"Or you could just kiss me."
Phoenix looked, for a moment, like a deer caught in the headlights. Then he got a grip and advanced on Edgeworth with a grin that was much more like his usual one. "Okay."
"No slobbering," Edgeworth warned, as Phoenix's hand settled lightly on his shoulder and Phoenix moved closer.
"Edgeworth," he said, exasperated. "You're going to ruin the moment. Worse than it's been ruined already."
"I just -- mmph."
