Summary: A collection of sentences about Fraser and Ray Vecchio. For

#01 - Air
Fraser was like a breath of fresh air, Ray thought -- a cold, very persistant breath, but one that made you feel better and was really quite different to anything else around; and sometimes it pushed you in a better direction.
#02 - Apples
"These apples aren't ripe, Ray," Fraser said, with all the concern of someone who thinks something is wrong, and Ray grabbed the apple off him with one hand, grabbed his arm with the other, and tugged him on, because he wasn't in the mood for another investigation involving supermarkets and the quality of their foodstuffs.
#03 - Beginning
The beginning of it all, really, Ray thought, as best as he could through the fuzzy satisfaction, had been that silly little kiss, and it had ended here, on Fraser's floor, and they were both wrapped around each other in a most wonderful way.
#04 - Bugs
"I'm not scared of them, Benny, it's just, I don't..." Ray was indignant, no matter how many times Fraser reassured him that a fear of small tickly crawly things was perfectly rational (and he didn't really think it was, but he had to make Ray feel better somehow).
#05 - Coffee
Coffee, as Ray informed Fraser on too many occassions to be counted, was an art, an art that everyone but himself got entirely wrong (the fact that it was an art, as Ray also informed Fraser, was why sometimes Ray's coffee went entirely wrong).
#06 - Dark
"I'm not afraid of the dark," Ray said, in a voice that wavered just a little, when the power cut plunged them into darkness; Fraser didn't comment, but he moved onto the bed and wrapped himself around Ray, feeling him jump and then settle against him guiltily.
#07 - Despair
Ray watched Fraser taste the dirt with some despair, noting down that Fraser wasn't allowed to kiss him again until he'd rinsed his mouth out with soap and water then brushed his teeth and tongue clean vigorously.
#08 - Doors
Ray stood next to Fraser, watching everyone go through the door before them, and looked up at him with a question, "Benny? In Canada... do you have queues of people lining up just to hold the door open?"
#09 - Drink
Days with Fraser usually left Ray feeling as if he was very much in need of a good, long, strong drink.
#10 - Duty
In Ray's own way, he was dutiful, even if Fraser was the one who showed it -- and the more time he spent with Fraser, the more he wanted to be as good as him.

"The world is a big and beautiful place, Ray," Fraser said, in answer to some of Ray's grumbling, and for a moment Ray remembered an old image of the earth from space -- but dismissed it, because that wasn't what Fraser meant.

When Victoria found Fraser, Ray thought that was the end -- but it wasn't, was it, because poor Benny had fallen for a criminal who would only use him, and once she was gone, at the end of that, he'd need comfort, and Ray'd be there for that.

It always near killed Ray inside when Benny jumped off things or onto things, because one day he was afraid that the idiot Mountie wouldn't get up again, but thankfully he almost seemed made of rubber, he always bounced back.

Red was, Ray knew, one of the best colours -- one of the colours of fire, which kept you warm, the colour blood should be, and the colour of Fraser's best uniform.
#15 - Flexible
Ray wasn't a flexible person -- he was bendable enough, when it came to things done in the bed, but when it came to every day life, Fraser found himself bending to accomodate Ray more than anything, but that was okay.
#16 - Flying
Fraser hated flying, even if he'd never say a word about it, so when they got on the aeroplane, he was glad that Ray was there to distract him so completely.
#17 - Food
"I hate hospital food," Ray said, and he hadn't stopped grumbling the whole time they were there, but Fraser was happy.
#18 - Foot
Ray looked at the fly sat on his big toe and looked over at Fraser, who, knowing how annoying it was with the intimate knowledge that comes only of having it happen to you, leaned over and shooed it off.
#19 - Grave
Fraser and Ray looked at each other, over the top of Ray's dad's grave, with an understanding that went deeper than friendship into a realm neither were ready to explore.

Fraser wouldn't look half as good if his uniform was any other colour -- green, for example -- but Ray would keep that thought more or less to himself.

"One day," Ray said, exasperated, while Fraser disentangled himself from various women, but even as he said it he knew it wouldn't ever come true, "the things girls say to you are going to swell your head so big your hat doesn't fit on anymore."

Ray felt a little hollow inside at the thought of Fraser going back to Canada and, on the whole, he was glad when it turned out that Fraser couldn't, really.

Honor was everything to Fraser, honor, and the pride of wearing his uniform and following his father, and friendship -- and, now, with Ray, love.

Ray had always pictured himself as a hero, when he was a kid, and that was why he became a cop, but day by day he'd grown more and more disillusioned with it -- until he met Fraser.

"Why do we always end up in sewers?" Ray asked, and even when Fraser reminded him that they'd only ended up in the sewers twice, and that it wasn't as bad as it could be, he still rushed through, trying to find the light and a way out of the smell.

"I got lost," Ray admitted, and Fraser nodded in his kind way, a way that said 'easily done' in the most reassuring way Fraser knew.
#27 - Metal
There was a taste of metal -- blood -- in his mouth, laying across his tongue and making him want to be sick, but -- but Ray was out there somewhere, so he started to haul himself up, never mind his cuts and bruises.

It was a new feeling, Ray found, when Fraser didn't seem to think about anyone but that woman, and for the first time when it came to Fraser and women, he found himself jealous.

"Never thought you'd turn out... that way, son," Fraser's dad, who was, still, really, just a figment of his imagination, and Fraser ignored the old guy, this time, and kept his attention firmly on Ray.
#30 - Peace
Curled up, both of them, on the bed in Fraser's cabin -- it was theirs, now, though, rebuilt by both of them -- they found a peace together that neither had expected, but both welcomed.
#31 - Poison
Fraser was almost like a poison, but a nice one, if there was such a thing -- once he got under your skin, he worked his way to your heart, and started slowly killing you with his goodness.

Ray should've felt jealous of Fraser, because all the pretty girls wanted him, but in reality, the pretty girls should've been jealous of him, because he had Fraser, and not them.

"It's raining, Ray, do you want -- " Ray cut Fraser off with a stare, and huffed softly when Fraser's hat was settled firmly on his head; but that was all Fraser did, respecting Ray's wish to stay quiet and, once he'd gone back inside, leaving Ray there, alone.

There were some things that Ray would always regret saying to people, but he was resolved never to say anything he would regret to Fraser -- so unconsciously damageable.

Ray stared at the red roses, struck by all the things that colour reminded him of, and wondered if Fraser had ever given girls roses.

It was a secret that everybody knew, and a subject that everybody avoiding -- Fraser and Ray simply were.

Ray listened to Fraser drone on and on, something about the Inuit and a snake (in Canada? did they have snakes in Canada?), and decided that to put up with these stories, you had to be Canadian, or it had to be the first or second one you heard, or you had to love Fraser a whole lot.

The blood was bright and hot on the snow, and for a moment Ray thought of Fraser, a spot of red uniform on all that white, and he swayed a little, and couldn't think anymore.

Ray sometimes had horrible dreams, but he'd wake to Fraser beside him, solid and real, and that made it okay.

Spring in Chicago, everything was just the same as always, except the days were lengthening and Fraser's shifts changed so Ray saw less of him, but that wasn't a big problem and life went on.

Ray found that Fraser's stories, while they bored him by now (he'd heard so many), were wonderful to help him sleep; he'd listen to Fraser's voice, and his breathing, the whining of that damn wolf in his sleep, and he'd drift off before he realised it.

When Ray woke to Diefenbaker's damp, ugly nose in his face, he decided that he'd had enough, and later he informed Fraser that he wasn't allowed to let the wolf into the bedroom any more.

"All's fair in love and war," Ray informed Fraser, leaving him somewhat puzzled, until he discovered that Ray had used up all the hot water, and then he smiled a little and just got on with it.

He found Ray leaning against a bridge, looking down at the water, and realised that for once he didn't know what to say.

Ray knew he was always welcome with Fraser, and sometimes, for no reason at all, that made him stay away that little bit longer, just to test it.
