FFVIII: Definition of Love

Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Seifer/Squall
Warnings: None
Rating: PG
Summary: Saying sorry.

Some people said that love is never having to say sorry.

Seifer knows better. Love is all about saying sorry. Love is saying sorry so many times that it almost gets glib, but never really can, because there's pain in the other's face that makes you hurt, too. Love is when you've hurt them and they find a smile (in Squall's case, just a tiny one) to accept your apology with.

Love is apologising because you can't stand your cold and empty bed, because you did something stupid and somehow made someone very special annoyed with you.

Love is, most of all, the fact that Seifer never apologises. Not ever. Only to Squall.

Love is the way they fight and neither needs to say sorry 'cause they both know they were in the wrong.

Love is the angry, angry look in Squall's eyes when he's been hurt and let down again, and the way that he closes his eyes to smooth the anger away and lets Seifer hold him, the way his eyes open again, calm and cool and forgiving.
