Hilda looked up and gave him a tiny smile, reaching out to touch his hand, her fingers just lightly brushing his. "Don't talk like that, Scott. If we start thinking we're going to fail, we will. All of us... we need to be strong."
"I won't let anything happen to you," he said, suddenly, returning her smile. He paused for a moment, and then lifted her hand to his lips, kissing it lightly. "I swear it."
"Don't risk yourself for such a thing."
"I won't take foolish risks. But still, I..."
She smiled again. "I know."
