FFIX: Laid Aside

Fandom: Final Fantasy IX
Pairing: None
Warnings: None
Rating: G
Summary: Steiner has laid many things aside. For [livejournal.com profile] madain_sari.

"She doesn't even know your name, sir," Breireicht says. It was probably supposed to be an undertone, a word in his ear, but instead it rings out across the room and all of the knights turn to look. Steiner forces himself not to blush: he laid embarassment aside when he became protector to the royals.

"Her Majesty has a great deal on her mind," he says, grandly, ignoring the fact that he has less idea than your average townboy what the queen is thinking. "It is not for you to question her. Or me, indeed," with more weight in it now, because he can employ them in tasks they won't enjoy for this, "for you will not enjoy the consequences."

There's a moment of silence. Then Weimar gets up. "Permission to leave, sir? I have a date."

He wants to say no. He wants to keep them all in here and scour their armour and order them to stand up straight. They're an embarrasment. But his own armour is rusty and the queen doesn't know his name, and he's laid aside embarassment and decided to simply do the best he can -- do the best for the princess Garnet, in hopes of provoking her lovely smile.

Weimar's rusty armour likely has no effect, good or bad, on Garnet's frowns. Steiner nods, and wishes he could at least sound a little grander -- a little more like a leader of men. "You may go."
