With Squall lying beside him like that, it's easy for Seifer to forget Ultimecia's voice: a lingering presence, forever whispering somewhere in the back of his skull. With Squall there to kiss and caress -- to draw grumpy little noises out of -- it's okay. But when Squall's asleep, his mind wandering who knows where, it's harder. Seifer lies with his hand on Squall's hip, watching him breathe, watching him dream.
Like this, it's harder to ignore the whispering voice, harder to ignore how easy it would be to steal that breath, those dreams, away, as his dreams were stolen.
