She's staring out of the window at the kids playing down in the street when he comes up behind her, wraps his arms around her and holds her tight. She isn't expecting it, but she knew he was there, and so she doesn't move or flinch or make a sound at the sudden touch.
"They're happy," she says, watching Marlene playing a game of hopscotch, watching Denzel talking earnestly to some other boys, as if the world rests on what he's saying, them listening as if they believe the same.
Cloud's arms tighten around her. "Aren't we?"
She isn't sure.
