Summary: A comfortable day at home. For
key_blade.
The sun is warm on his face, and Riku's arm presses warm against his, warm and solid and there but undemanding. Sora wonders if Roxas still feels the same sun, somewhere within him, or if they're completely one now. He wonders if that was ever an issue. The sand feels good between his toes -- good in the way that it'll be annoying to get rid of later, but right now it's comfortingly like home.
"Do you ever want to leave again?"
Riku is looking up at the sky, like he used to look out to the wide sweep of the sea. "I don't know."
"I think I'd like an adventure again," Sora says, and he grins a little. And then, more seriously: "But I want to know home will always be here to come back to. No matter where I go or what I do..."
Riku doesn't say anything for a moment. And then he does smile, just a little. "I'll hold the fort if you go off on an adventure."
"Oh, no," Sora says, dismayed, reminded of something -- of being alone, of being nothing -- and realising that somewhere inside him, Roxas or some part of Roxas is telling him not to let that happen, never to let his friends out of his sight. "I'll want you to come with me. And Kairi, of course. Tidus and Wakka and Selphie can stay here and keep home safe."
He laughs. "If you leave it to those three, home'll be gone before you even sneeze."
Sora frowns a little, and then shrugs. "Well, um... it'll be easy to get it back, when the adventure's over, if we're together."
He stiffens just a little when Riku takes his hand, and then he relaxes again, tangling their fingers carefully. "Everything's easy if we work together on it," Riku says, seriously, like it's the most important lesson he's ever learned.
Maybe it is.
