FFX-2: Joy In Life

Fandom: Final Fantasy X-2
Pairing: Tidus/Yuna
Warnings: None
Rating: PG
Summary: Tidus spends some time with Rikku. For [livejournal.com profile] 30_fantasies.

"I'm glad you're back," Rikku says, tucking her arm through his and holding on. Touch is still somehow odd to him, alien; after that last fleeting brush when Yuna fell through him, he felt nothing until he found himself swimming up through water. He has the feeling that there was something, that time passed around him, but he can't capture any memory between the time he disappeared to the time he found himself in the water close to Besaid.

"I'm glad to be back, too," he says, because the cool void he sinks into when he thinks of disappearing makes him shiver, makes him feel sick. Yes: he's glad that it's over, even if he doesn't remember it happening. Or not happening, as his memories suggest.

"Yunie's so happy, too," Rikku says, demanding his attention by elbowing him gently in the ribs. "She was lost without you."

"She wasn't," Tidus says, firmly, because his Yuna is strong, his Yuna can live without him, even if he doesn't want her to, even if she hates the very idea of him leaving her again. She's only gotten stronger in the time they've been apart: stronger, wiser.

"At first, at least." Rikku sighs softly. "It -- it was strange for all of us, you know. You helped us, you were there with us all along, and then -- "

"Please don't."

"I'm sorry," she says, instantly contrite. She smiles at him and leans up -- brushes her lips over his cheek, a feather-light touch. "But we really are all glad you're back."

"I told you. I'm glad to be back. And," he looks up at the sky, now, the words almost a challenge to fate, "I'm not going anywhere."
