"You've got that look on your face."
Squall glances up, blinking at Irvine's sudden statement. Irvine shrugs slightly, moving closer and cuddling against him, apparently reluctant to elaborate -- or expecting Squall to get what he means immediately. "What look? I can't read your mind yet, no matter what my dad says about longterm couples."
Irvine grins a little. He runs a hand over Squall's side; lazy, caressing. "That look. Not quite your broody look, or the sulky one, either -- "
"Do you catalogue them or something?"
"Not exactly... anyway, it's just that look. The one you have right now. You had it the day we met, too. I mean, in the orphanage. The day you arrived. I still remember that, somehow, even though I use GFs as much as you now. You'd think they'd have sucked it out of me by now. Anyway... you look, well, thoughtful. But not sad. Normally when you look thoughtful you look broody or sulky as well."
Squall snorts softly. "How could I be grumpy with you around?"
"Is that a compliment?"
Squall settles down against Irvine, closing his eyes, slipping an arm around his waist to hold onto him tightly. "If you want it to be."
Irvine laughs softly. He watches Squall fall asleep -- the thoughtful look followed by the content one, and then sleepy, and then the one that comes only when he's totally relaxed; worn out after sex or sleeping after a hard day's work. Irvine smiles a little and kisses Squall's forehead softly, cuddling closer to him and closing his eyes.
He misses the look Squall gives him when he wakes up in the morning: a warm, unguarded look that'd have to go down in Irvine's mental tally chart as loving.
