Summary: Rikku cuddles up to Wakka. For [livejournal.com profile] pyre_flies.

Wakka woke up when Rikku crept near him in the night, looking up in confusion to see her hastily putting a finger on her lips. "Ssh! I just wanted to, you know, snuggle or something. Just for warmth. It's f-f-freezing."

He frowned slightly, sitting up and eyeing her shivers. "It's not that cold here."

"I'm not used to this kind of weather. Please, Wakka?"

He'd never been good at resisting pretty girls, especially not when they smiled at him like that. Hopefully. Giving him the wide-eyed look and all. And, well. It seemed sort of like forgiveness, that she'd come to him to snuggle up and not, say, Tidus. Considering how stupid he'd been lately. Without apologising overly much, too. Happy festival fireworks and all. Even though that'd been an honest attempt. "Um. Okay then. Hey! Not too close."

"Snuggling is snuggling," Rikku said, rolling her eyes at him. She settled down next to him, dragging one of his arms over her waist and tucking herself in comfortably next to him. He could hear her breathing like that, soft and steady. He did his best to be natural, too, taking a deep breath. She poked him in the stomach. "Just relax already."

"I'm relaxed!"

"No, you're not! I've slept with steel poles that were more relaxed than you! And don't you dare look like that! I mean in a purely innocent sense."

"I didn't -- "

She sat up, blowing wisps of her hair out of her face. "I might be better cuddling up to Kimahri."

Wakka winced. He couldn't help it. Kimahri was great in a battle and all, but he was still a Ronso and, well. Wakka didn't feel entirely comfortable around anyone who didn't look more human. Including Rikku. With her strange eyes. She still made him a little uncomfortable. "Sorry, sorry. Just... I'll be good, ya?"

She gave him a look and settled back down. "Better," she said, after a moment.

Wakka did his best to relax.

She went to sleep extraordinarily quickly.
