"I used to wonder how things might've been," Ellone says, softly. Squall looks up at her and then moves closer, his shoulder bumping hers gently: the only indication that he's interested and wants her to go on. She's gotten skilled at reading his body language all over again, and the barely hidden interest makes her smile. "If Laguna hadn't left, or Raine hadn't... you know."
"Why don't you wonder anymore?"
"Because I've seen," she says. Squall gives her a concerned look and she smiles again to dampen the concern in his eyes. "With my... talent. I tried to see... and I saw. I saw us, grown up together, in Winhill, in peace, happy..."
"And?"
Ellone looks away. "And we died. In the sorceress war."
"Oh."
She moves closer to Squall and lets herself lean against him, just a little. "I guess we've done alright this way, haven't we?"
"I suppose so."
