Summary: The Fayth whisper secrets to the men who are already dead. For
over_look.
The Fayth whispers secrets. He closes his eyes to them, but can't stop his ears, and as he kneels, praying, they tell him. Things only a dead man can know, things only a dead man walking can know and not simply give up from despair. But Braska knows his place. If they're trying to test him, he will not back down. And outside, Jecht and Auron wait, with their strength and their surety. Shiva will aid them, if he has to kneel here and pray for days.
And Braska laid aside hope when he took up a staff.
Shiva seems to smile, when he finally summons her for Jecht and Auron to see. The fruit of their labour: icy and beautiful and remote. As if frozen in time as well as in place, Jecht and Auron just watch when she reaches out to touch the man they are sworn to guard. He doesn't move, but lets the icy touch run over his cheek.
"You are strong," she says, approvingly. Her blue lips curve into a smile. It should be worrying, he thinks, but he's too cold to focus on that. "I will come for you."
"Thank you," he says, bowing his head.
"In the end, it will be us who thank you, for what you gave the world, all unknowing, in the brief space when you lived," the aeon says, her eyes looking down the ages. "I will look forward to meeting your daughter."
He blinks, and she is gone, but still there, waiting for his need. Auron and Jecht remain silent: awed, dumbstruck, frozen.
