There're an awful lot of things you come to regret, as you set off on a pilgrimage. Braska knows that they already see him as dead: he is their sacrifice, and they watch him go, and they have nothing to regret -- they will reap the benefits of all he throws away. To be a summoner is a high honour; there is glory in this sacrifice to be had, but only by those who linger on their pilgrimage.
Having realised that he is full of regrets, Braska will not linger. Besaid tempts him: such a peaceful place it seems that Sin could not touch it. Until he looks closer and sees the marks of destruction even here, and a brittle quality to the faces of the young women that line up to smile and honour him.
"Does it ever stop?" he asks Auron, on the boat the next night. His fingers trace the grain of the wood, over and over, smoothing it beneath his fingers.
"You'll stop it, right?"
Jecht's gruff voice makes him jump and he turns quickly to look at his other guardian. "I didn't realise you were there."
"He has a tendency to stand there eavesdropping," Auron says, coolly.
Braska sighs as the spark passes between them, and speaks to keep them from arguing. He could, perhaps, regret this -- but the antagonism between the two is interesting and their slowly growing friendship more so. It keeps his mind off things.
"I will stop it," he says. "But not forever."
"Nothing lasts forever anyway," Jecht says. Braska can almost believe that the man has no regrets, when he speaks like that. But he can almost see them, and Jecht's fight against them.
Another reason to keep Jecht at his side.
"I wish I could see Yuna one more time," he says, in answer to his own regrets.
