fated_children.
Fujin follows Squall into the bar, her lips thin with disapproval, though she doesn't say anything. Squall glances at her only once he's got them drinks, leading her to sit down while keeping one ear skillfully on the conversations. "You're wondering why we don't split up completely."
"I could take care of myself."
"I know you could." Squall smiles a little -- surprising her, though she does her best not to show it. "I'd rather not split up at all, but we're a rather odd group. I thought it'd be better this way."
"We're an odd couple," Fujin says, and then blushes -- just a little -- at the word she used. Squall raises an eyebrow, sipping at his drink.
"I suppose."
"How is this even supposed to work?"
Squall shrugs slightly. "People talk. If anyone has seen Seifer, if they're the type to come to bars, they'll talk about it. They'll talk about seeing the sorceress knight, or 'that bastard who served the sorceress', or -- "
"He was controlled!" Her voice veers, for a moment, into her old tones, and then she swallows hard, forcing that anger back -- knowing that Squall knows and understands what happened, if no one else does. He doesn't react to her outburst and, for a moment, she sits silently, sipping her drink.
"Of course, the other thing is," he offers her the tiniest of smiles now: shy, almost, "I wanted to spend some time with you."
When she looks up, he isn't looking at her. But when they get back to the hotel, before they go into the room, she kisses him.
