FFIV: A Series Of Rather Confusing Events

Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Pairing: Kain/Edge
Warnings: Sap, smut
Rating: NC17
Summary: Kain arrives in Eblan unexpectedly. For [livejournal.com profile] lassarina, for being an awesome friend and a constant reviewer.

"You're wet."

Edge felt excused from the stupidity of stating the obvious because Kain was about the last person he expected to turn up, dripping wet, in a part of Eblan Castle he had no right being in. Also, because the cleaners would no doubt make annoyed remarks about puddles of dirty water to gramps, and no doubt he'd get in trouble as a result. Somehow, no matter how distantly, the incident would be connected to him.

"Yes," Kain agreed. "And cold. You need to deal with that hole in the castle defenses. I'll show you in the morning."

"What are you doing here? I thought you were still training on Mount Ordeals!"

Kain actually had the audacity to look amused, a fact Edge ignored with all the dignity he could muster. "It's raining. I need somewhere to stay. I left Mount Ordeals a while ago, I've been visiting people since, before I make my way back to Baron."

"Ah."

Edge wasn't sure what else he could say. Kain prompted him gently. "Somewhere warm? And dry? If such places still exist. I think you have a couple of leaks in the roof, too."

"We do not," he said, automatically, to uphold the honour of his kingdom. Without further elaboration, he turned to lead Kain up to the wing that had such things as bedrooms and supplies of warm water. He was still somewhat stunned by Kain's random appearance. Nobody had told him Kain had returned to civilisation, and he'd been showing all signs of living out his life on Mount Ordeals prior to this.

He wasn't any less confused by the time Kain was dry and sitting on Edge's bed, apparently there to hold some kind of conversation with him. He was distractingly not-very-dressed, a fact which Edge was swiftly learning that he had to ignore.

And swiftly failing at.

Conversation failed quickly, and Edge found himself staring at Kain far too much. And after that, he found himself kissing him, for no real reason that he could discern except for the fact that Kain was right there, not-very-dressed, and apparently agreeable. He was a good kisser, if a little prone to over-gentleness -- a fact that Edge reprimanded him for with a sharp bite to his lower lip.

After that, he found himself on his back on the bed fairly swiftly, too. It was becoming less of a surprise every time he thought about it -- or perhaps he was giving up to hormones and, in fact, ceasing to think about it. Whichever worked, as far as he was concerned.

"I don't understand you," he muttered, when Kain pulled back a little. And he promptly pulled Kain closer again, pressing against him, kissing, nipping, biting, squirming to figure out exactly what made Kain make which interesting little noise. When he drew a groan from Kain, he pulled away, wriggling over to grab something from his bedside table. Kain eyed it suspiciously.

"Make a habit of this?"

"Nope," Edge said, cheerfully, giving Kain the little bottle. "That's just in case someone is captivating enough. And you'll do."

Kain kept the amusement from his voice valiantly, coating his fingers in the thick oily stuff. "I see. Just..."

Edge spread his legs willingly enough, without forcing Kain to actually talk about what they were going to do. Then, as Kain pushed one finger rather roughly into him, he pulled him closer again and kissed him as fiercely and eagerly as he knew how -- gasping softly and arching his back as Kain got more confident and his fingers got more clever.

He was never a man of great patience, so his snappish command to get on with it was somewhat predictable. Kain was more careful, then -- urging him to bring his legs up, kissing him rather more softly, a fact which Edge put down to Kain's concentration being focused on other things. He pushed into him slowly, too, making him writhe with impatience, but he made up for it as he pushed the rest of the way in quickly and with a choked back moan.

Edge reached up, digging his fingers into Kain's shoulders and whispering a breathless, imperious command for more. More of that. Kain hid a smile against Edge's shoulder, biting rather harder than intended as he pulled out, thrusting back into him again and feeling him squeeze all round him.

Edge, he found, had a rather foul mouth when in bed, contrasting with his own tendency to keep his mouth -- mostly -- shut.

It was, happily for Edge, who liked it that way, rather quick and rough, and completely breathless and wonderful. His fingers dug into Kain's back hard as he arched his back and clung and swore and moaned. There was nothing quite like it, except a good fight, and Edge had been lacking in good fights lately, too. It was -- beyond words, and he normally had words for every situation.

Kain kissed him harder all of a sudden, mouth hard against his, thrusting harder into him. His hand brushed down Edge's chest, and down his stomach, and then wrapped around his cock, pumping in a slow and infuriating counterpoint to the sex.

"Kain -- "

Kain growled Edge's name softly as he came, kissing him again, bruising his lips a little and taking his breath away, pushing his tongue into his mouth and swallowing his cry as he came, too. He held still for a few frantic heartbeats, feeling Edge shuddering under him in pleasure, pressing closer to feel the rise and fall of his chest as he fought to steady his breathing.

"I don't understand you," Edge said again, when he'd mostly caught his breath and Kain was nestled comfortably against him.

"I love you," Kain said, somewhat distantly. "That's what I'm doing here."

Like so much else this evening, this surprised Edge. There was no particular reason he could think of for Kain being in love with him, apart from the obvious points that most people did and he was a charming and clever young man. Luckily, he found he didn't have to answer -- not immediately, anyway. Kain was asleep.
